Velosipedska News #11 - A Final Look at Div 6

Written by Velosipedska at 11:56 30/8-2020

Greetings to fans, press and other readers. The last two seasons Velosipedska finished just in div 5, but we never quite seem to be able to stay up. This year we have one clear goal: Race Oryx one last time and say farewell to div 6 after that. With new trainees and more experience, this should be the season we take a step up. Read all about the first weeks of this season in this edition of Velosipedska News!

  ---TEAM NEWS---
First of all, we want to welcome our new sponsors Rant An` Plan and Helleman Aero Company. Together they will sponsor the team for a little over 50k, and there is still a bit of room on the Velosipedska shirts! The team thanks our new partners and we hope to find more believers in Macedonian cycling the next few weeks.
Apart from these deals there hasn’t been much news on a structural lever for the team. Velosipedska still aims to improve their staff and the abilities of current staff, but at the moment our resources are being focused on our training program.

  ---RIDER NEWS---
There’s a lot to talk about in the rider news section this time. First of all, Metodija Aksentiev is enjoying a small break from cycling. He will recharge his energy to join our fight to stay in div 5 at the end of this season and the start of next season.
More interesting news regarding Vladimir Gavalovski. He’s finished the main sprint train program and is now busy improving his skills in hilly terrain. After that he might do some extensive training on cobblestones or improving his aero position, but Vladimir has basically completed our training. Be sure to congratulate him if you see him during a race!
Gava’s departure makes room for new blood in the training program, and we have two exciting young Macedonians to tell you about! Jordan Spirkoski and Eftim Nastevski have joined the team at the start of this season.
Sprikoski will be helping out Riste Nikolovski, his climbing prowess will be some much needed support in the mountains. He’s also showing promising signs during flat road and time trial practises, so he could be a new GC contender. At only 20 years old he’ll be eligible for the YC for a couple more years, so if his training progresses well you might see him follow in Riste’s footsteps at Oryx!
Nastevski is neither a climber, nor a sprinter, but basically a huge maniac. He loves pushing hard on the flats and dropping like a brick on the descents. As he is quite huge, we will train him to be able to drive the peloton forwards and help keep his captains out of the wind. If we dare, he might be let loose on the downhills to guide Riste during tricky parts of mountainous stages. For now he will just be assigned to the flat training squad, at least until Jordan has finished his training. At age 19 (20 in a week) there’s still plenty of time for him to improve.

   Spirkoski’s potentials:
   CL: Good
   DH: Small
   HL: Small
   SP: Small
   FR: Average
   CB: None
   TT: Average
   TQ: Small

   Nastevski’s potentials:
   CL: Small
   DH: Good
   HL: Small
   SP: None
   FR: Very Good
   CB: None
   TT: None
   TQ: Average

To make room in our team squads, a couple of riders will leave the team during the season. Most of these riders were amateurs who enjoyed and facilitated the rise of Macedonian cycling, but who simply lack the power to compete at the highest level. Besart Alomerovic, Arben Curlinov, Metodije Idrizi and Vasil Trickovski will all be saying goodbye these next few days. They will all get their deserved attention in the next newsletter.

  ---RACE NEWS---
Let’s be honest, our race results have been a bit lackluster since last season’s edition of Oryx. The team originally planned to get a few results and points to sign up for Monte Rosa, but a meager 15th place at Selfoss - Hafnarfjordur was followed by a crash and 20th place at the Classico di Siracusa - Metodija Aksentiev’s last main target before his rest period.
Spirits in the squad were quite low after the first week, but like always, Riste Nikolovski showed that he’s a real team leader. Grabbing a 4th place at both Thandiani Escalade and Shadow of the Annapurna, Riste got the team back in business. He finished 9th at Jelep La Climb as we speak, so the team is sure he’ll continue to impress during his form build-up towards Oryx.
A pleasant surprise came from Vladimir Gavalovski at Abbey Road Race. Vladimir was originally signed to support Aksentiev, but during Metodija’s break our sprint train had to keep their legs warm. With a few new guys in the ranks Vladi started as our main sprinter and he delivered with a solid 6th place. Vladimir told us he even had a bit of an off day, so we are looking forward to seeing what he can do with great legs! The team is happy to know Velosipedska has multiple riders that can get a result in these divisions.
So what’s in store for our fans? Metodija will start building form around day 40 - when he returns from his break - at Kota Bahru - Kuala Terengganu, where he finished 3d last year. He has no particular main target, but we think he still has unfinished business in Syracuse.
Riste is already up and running, trying to peak at Odyssey of the Oryx. Our favourite tour is the Namibian cobbled climbing race, and after Riste missed his chance to defend his YC due to a crash impeding his preparation, he’s eager to get a solid result there once more. Perhaps new guy Sporkoski can even follow in his footsteps.

Kind regards and thanks for reading,
  KrMees (Manager)
  Vujadin Mileski (PR)
